About the Artist
Katherine Zeilman was raised in rural Ohio and discovered her passion for glass in 2012 while earning her BFA at the Columbus College of Art & Design. Beginning with traditional soft glass techniques, she honed and developed a strong foundation in the art and craft of glassblowing.
In 2016, Zeilman moved to Western North Carolina, where she has spent nearly a decade contributing to the region’s glass community. She has worked as a production gaffer, instructor, coldworker, studio technician & more, collaborating with over 13 regional studios and private artists.
When the Covid-19 pandemic closed many glassblowing studios in 2020, Zeilman taught herself to flamework on a borrowed torch. This shift allowed her to expand her skills and artistic focus, marking a pivotal moment in her practice.
Today, she serves as the lead gaffer and production director for Terrane Glass Co., a high-end barware line in Burnsville, NC. In late September 2024, the aftermath of Hurricane Helene caused Zeilman to leave her home and studio behind, but her determination remains. She is committed to rebuilding her flameworking practice in Western North Carolina and creating opportunities for other makers in the area. Her work reflects traditional craft and a commitment to storytelling through glass—a medium integral to her identity and community connection. Zeilman's resilience and dedication have deeply shaped the trajectory of her career.
